10/18/11 - Cavalcade Gives Back !
Cavalcade Gives Back - the Cavalcade of Bands is launching our new program with this year’s Marching Band Championships on November 12 & 13.

It’s simple….we are asking each family or everyone that is coming to Championships this year to bring a food item(s) to Hersheypark Stadium or Millersville University. If you can’t do this or don’t have the time, no problem. Just come and cheer on the kids giving their heart and soul to their programs.

But if you can bring a canned good, box of pasta or a cereal – great! All foods will be donated the next weekend to the Central PA Food Bank.

Ok, now let’s make it a bit more fun. For everyone that brings a food item to Championships, you will receive a small gift from the Cavalcade. AND we will be weighing each donation and documenting which band the items come from. Also, the winning band in each class will be mentioned and congratulated on the CBA website.

If you have any questions, please contact Mitch Adams at mitchadams@cavalcadeofbands.org

10/10/11 - Championship Information - Liberty Divis
To all CBA Band Directors:

Welcome to the mid-season of the 2011 Marching schedule with and without the rain and mud.

I want to spend some time updating you on the state of the Cavalcade of Bands Marching season. We have experienced some good growth over the last 10 years when we were sitting on a membership of only 23 bands at Championships. To a degree, we were almost in dire straights to succeed and go into the future.

As of today, we are proud and excited to announce that Championships will be in two locations this year. The Independence and Yankee classes will still be entertaining the crowds at Hersheypark Stadium on Saturday, November 12. The American class will be performing in Hershey, as well on Sunday, November 13. And NEW to the schedule will be the introduction of the Liberty class performing at Biemesderfer Stadium at Millersville University, Millersville, PA on Sunday, November 13!

Now, why are we doing this and how does it affect you and your band:
• Because of time and noise/light ordinances, Hersheypark Stadium can only accommodate 90 bands total for the weekend of November 12/13. With our competing bands, freedom class bands and exhibitions, we are pushing 110 performances. This is incredible!
• Normally, our Membership submissions stop coming in by mid-August – this year we received 10 new Memberships in just the past few weeks.
• If you are an Independence or Yankee class band, this new plan does not affect you this year.
• If you are an American class band, you are in Hershey and the schedule will change as such: -
o The first band will perform roughly at 12noon on Sunday and the last band will hit the field roughly around 8pm
o For directors dealing with church issues, this could help the cause.
o Your band will not be out as late as they have been in past years.
• If you a Liberty class band, you are at Millersville University and the schedule will be similar to the American class schedule:
o The first band will perform roughly at 12noon on Sunday and the last band will hit the field roughly around 8pm
o For directors dealing with church issues, this could help the cause.
o Your band will not be out as late as they have been in past years.

For the present and future, with this increase in Memberships, our Championship rotation will be as follows:
• The Liberty class will be at Millersville University for the 2011 Marching season
• The Independence class will be at Millersville University for the 2012 Marching season
• The American class will be at Millersville University for the 2013 Marching season
• The Yankee class will be at Millersville University for the 2014 Marching season

Millersville University Athletic Department has been very accommodating in helping the CBA schedule this Championship. And the Millersville University Marauders Marching Band, under the direction of CBA Secretary Josh Decker, is very proud and excited to be helping make this new site flow as easily as the staff at Hersheypark Stadium has done for the past 10 years.

Also, helping in the flow and ease of this eveng, is band director Tom Mumma and the Band Parent organization of Penn Manor High School. Penn Manor HS and Millersville University share the grounds and Stadium. So help from both has become very optimal.

The Cavalcade of Bands thanks both Tomma Mumma and Josh Decker in stepping up to the plate and making a tough schedule and situation much easier for all concerned!

More details will be forthcoming in the next two weeks, please stay tuned.

I, personally, thank all CBA Band Directors, CBA Board of Directors and our Administrators and Coordinators in your cooperation and understanding in the growth and future of the Cavalcade of Bands. Most importantly, I want to thank Bill Powers, our Marching Band Administrator in contacting and working out many of the details of the venture. THANKS BILL!!

Respectfully, Mitch
Mitch Adams, Executive Director – Cavalcade of Bands Association
